Key information

Unity has released an updated automotive human-machine interface (HMI) template for Unity Industry, compatible with Unity 6.3 or later. Available now via the Unity Hub, this new iteration builds upon a 2021 release to provide a foundation for developers creating interfaces for automotive and other embedded sectors, including robotics, aerospace, and medical systems.

The template features a modular, data-driven architecture separated into three distinct layers: data, presentation, and 3D simulation. This structure allows developers to swap data sources, designers to modify visual elements, and technical artists to replace vehicle models. It includes a digital instrument cluster, climate controls, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) supported by a live city driving simulation.

To demonstrate production-ready performance on constrained hardware, the template is optimized for embedded-style systems. It achieves stable frame rates of up to 60 fps on a Linux-based Raspberry Pi 5. This performance highlights the template's capability to maintain responsiveness and predictable memory usage on platforms like QNX and Android Automotive.

Additionally, the template includes a centralized theme system that enables live accent color updates across the entire interface. This feature assists teams in managing brand styling, accessibility modes, and regional variants. Users can access the template by selecting Unity 6.3 in the Unity Hub.
