Journalist Jeff Gerstmann reported that a fresh Ape Escape title is currently in production. VGC sources further corroborated this information regarding the project.
The development is reportedly being handled by Evening Star, the external studio known for Penny’s Big Breakaway and Sonic Mania. Gerstmann noted he heard about the project while asking questions at DICE in February.
Gerstmann mentioned that the project did not appear close to completion and was just getting underway when initially heard. He added that the title was barely greenlit at that time.
This development aligns with reports that Sony intends to utilize external third-party studios to revive inactive franchises from its catalog. The final mainline title in the franchise was Ape Escape 3 for the PS2, arriving five years prior to the 2010 PlayStation Move Ape Escape release on PS3. Sony did not respond to requests for comment regarding this strategy.
