Wizards of the Coast revealed at New York Comic Con that Marvel Darkhold Destiny will serve as the inaugural Universes Beyond expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2027. The set features iconic characters such as Doctor Strange, Thor, and Ghost Rider facing off against antagonists like Hela and Dormammu.
Gameplay introduces the Vengeance mechanic, which functions similarly to Adventure cards by allowing players to cast spells from the graveyard and return the associated permanent to the battlefield. Additionally, the set marks the return of the Arcane spell subtype.
The release includes standard and Collector booster packs alongside four pre-constructed commander decks centered on Marvel figures, including the Midnight Sons. Revealed cards include the Darkhold, Gargantos, and Magic, who possesses a transformation ability into Darkchild.
Developed through a collaboration between Marvel and Wizards of the Coast, the set features an original narrative. A new character debuting in this expansion will also appear in a Marvel Infinity comic series beginning in February. The set is scheduled for release on April 9 at local game stores and major retailers.
