Key information
Wizards of the Coast has announced Magic: The Gathering Darkhold Destiny, a new Marvel collaboration set scheduled for release on April 8. Unlike previous Marvel sets focused on existing superhero canon, this release features an original storyline centered on world-building. The narrative follows characters like Doctor Strange, Thor, and Ghost Rider as they oppose an invasion of the multiverse by Hela and Dormammu.
The set introduces several new mechanics, including Vengeance, which functions similarly to the Adventure mechanic but allows casting from the graveyard. Designers have also brought back the Arcane card subtype, last seen in the Kamigawa block. Additionally, the set features a new card type called Dimension, though Wizards of the Coast has not yet revealed specific details regarding its functionality.
Product offerings include booster packs, scene boxes, and four commander decks: Strange Academy, Gods of Asgard, Midnight Sons, and Lords of Hel. Collectors can also expect Secret Lair drops and various foil treatments. While the panel provided significant information, Wizards of the Coast noted that many details remain undisclosed, and the set will be preceded by two other Universes Beyond releases next year.
The set will be supported by new crossover comics via Infinity Comics starting in February. While the presentation generated excitement, observers noted that significant aspects of the set remain unrevealed, leaving players to wait for further updates as the April launch approaches.
