Key information
Yayapipi Studio has launched the third edition of its Larch creator challenge, themed "Freedom and Constraints," with submissions open until October 24. Larch is a browser-based game engine designed to allow users to develop visual novels and 2D RPGs without requiring programming skills.
The engine utilizes an infinite whiteboard interface where creators link cards to manage branching narratives, character dialogue, and map design. For RPG development, the platform includes built-in features for terrain painting, NPC management, and combat systems. Multiplayer functionality is available as a toggle, though official release of online versions requires Pro or permanent membership.
Founder Yapi emphasizes that Larch aims to remove technical barriers for creators. While the engine offers optional AI-assisted tools for generating assets, voiceovers, and terrain, users retain the ability to perform all tasks manually for free.
Since its official 1.0 release on August 12, Larch has seen 84 published games in its marketplace. The platform supports exporting projects to 14 different formats, including Windows, macOS, and various game engines like Unity and Godot.
