Key information

Gigabyte has announced that new processors designed for the LGA1700 socket are expected to launch in early 2027. These upcoming chips represent fresh iterations of the Raptor Lake and Alder Lake architectures, which were previously utilized for Intel's 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen lineups.

A primary advantage of these new processors is their continued support for DDR4 memory. With DDR5-6000 32 GB kits currently priced around $480 compared to $210 for DDR4-3600 32 GB kits, the affordability of older memory remains a significant factor for consumers.

Intel VP Robert Hallock previously confirmed in August that Raptor Lake chips would remain in the company's portfolio for years, citing ongoing interest in DDR4 support as a key driver for this strategy. The chips feature a memory controller compatible with both DDR4 and DDR5, depending on the motherboard used.

Gigabyte states that owners of existing B760 and H610 motherboards can utilize these new CPUs by updating their BIOS. This process allows for a drop-in upgrade without requiring a system rebuild or motherboard replacement, offering a performance boost on established hardware.
