Daniel Mullins, the developer behind the acclaimed title Inscryption, has made his 2016 meta horror game Pony Island available for free on Steam. Players can claim the title to keep permanently until the promotion ends on Oct. 12, 2026.

Pony Island begins as a 2D endless runner featuring unicorns before shifting through various genres. The narrative centers on a player attempting to escape a cursed arcade cabinet. The game earned positive reception for its postmodern storytelling and experimental design.

The upcoming sequel, Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, was revealed at The Game Awards 2023. It follows a soul attempting to escape an underworld prison. Trailers suggest the game will feature diverse gameplay styles, including real-time strategy, first-person exploration, and 2D action.

Pony Island 2: Panda Circus is scheduled for release on April 27, 2027. Interested players can currently apply to participate in an ongoing Steam playtest for the title.
