Key information
Supermassive Games, known for creating Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, has completed staff layoffs following earlier warnings. Back in August, the studio released a statement initiating redundancy consultations. These consultations were expected to affect up to 75 employees, with company leaders citing the necessity to secure ongoing business sustainability.
Frank Tindle, who served as IT and facilities director alongside being part of the senior leadership team, confirmed via LinkedIn that his sixteen-year tenure with the studio had officially ended. Tindle noted that the developer expanded from a tiny team to a workforce exceeding 400 individuals during his time there.
According to departing senior staff, more than 70 talented individuals across departments including development, artistry, production, quality assurance, and operations have been let go from Supermassive Games. Talent acquisition leader Tim Browning also announced his exit following a period of extensive hiring, award victories, and project launches.
The workforce reductions arrive shortly after the May release of Directive 8020, an entry in The Dark Pictures series that received mixed reviews upon debut. Despite these structural changes, the studio recently revealed intentions to introduce online multiplayer features to the game during the current month.
