Key information
Epic Games recently reported public safety threats made by a Fortnite player to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation. Edward Lee Frith, a 29-year-old resident of Alabama, allegedly made repeated threats of murder during in-game voice chat.
According to court documents submitted by FBI Special Agent Bryan Engle, Epic Games voluntarily disclosed information to the FBI regarding user WagesOfNinja. Epic provided account data and voice recordings, revealing the user logged in over 1,700 times from Alabama IP addresses.
Court filings show Frith stated he wanted to kill someone and expressed readiness to shoot FBI agents if they appeared at his home. Agent Engle reviewed the recordings and confirmed the transcriptions accurately reflect threats directed at police, federal agents, and others.
Following the investigation, Frith was arrested on September 23 and charged with Threatening Interstate Communications. He has denied the charges and awaits a trial scheduled for December, with a detention order issued keeping him in custody.
