Key information
Remedy Entertainment brings back its supernatural universe in CONTROL Resonant, a direct sequel arriving for PlayStation 5. The previewed game explores a distorted, crumbling Manhattan alongside Dylan, an inmate with extraordinary abilities who wants his sister back. Set ahead of the September 24 release, a preview of the title highlights the strange events taking place in the city.
Dylan offers much greater mobility than Jesse, featuring high vertical leaps and quick aerial dashes to navigate a giant Manhattan filled with distorted gravity. In combat, Dylan's abilities lean heavily into close-quarters confrontations against Hiss entities, requiring frequent dodging and precise strikes. The previewer noted that Dylan retains an endearing clumsiness, stumbling after falls rather than executing a superhero landing.
The previewer found the optional side quests utilizing environmental objects to reconstruct Dylan's childhood memories to be an impressive story element. However, the reviewer warns that combat requires careful strategy and timing, as careless approaches lead directly to a blood-soaked game over screen. Players must manage ability power through melee attacks and execute stunned enemies.
CONTROL Resonant is scheduled for release in 2026. The game avoids being a complete open world, instead offering sandbox zones alongside the main campaign, arcade cabinets for time challenges, and a variety of upgrades accessed from The Gap.
