Key information
At the OSAKA INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026, held on October 3 and 4, 2026, sound designer Kuwapon showcased a demo for the PC title Kindling Hour. This psychological horror adventure follows a protagonist searching for a missing person named Yumeko, leading them into an irrational, dark world that blurs the lines between reality and internal mental states.
The gameplay centers on clicking to navigate forward while managing a candle flame that weakens with every step. Once the flame extinguishes, exploration ends. Players collect diary fragments and items to uncover the truth, with the narrative structure designed to reveal more of the world's secrets through repeated, controlled exploration cycles.
Kuwapon notes the game avoids jump scares, instead focusing on a creeping sense of unease inspired by titles like Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk. While the protagonist is weary, the dialogue incorporates frank humor to provide tonal balance. However, Kuwapon acknowledges that current UI and UX elements remain areas for improvement based on feedback from event attendees.
The title, derived from Maki Asakawa's song "Hitomoshigoro," reflects the developer's background in music and band performance. Kuwapon intends to continue refining the project toward a planned 2027 release, aiming to demonstrate that creative impulses can be pursued at any stage of life.
