Key information

At the OSAKA INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026 held on October 3 and 4, Latent Entertainment exhibited the 3D action game "The Tale of Mina and Kotodama." Players control a character using a controller while utilizing their voice to summon objects and activate mechanisms.

During the hands-on session, speaking the word "rock" into a microphone successfully generated a stone to use as a platform. The developer yoshi noted that the voice recognition engine was custom-built over approximately six months. Furthermore, a spell named "Elevate," which raises platforms based on vocal duration, features a chanting duration system that is currently patent-pending.

Creator yoshi previously worked on robotics and began game development about two years prior, releasing a smartphone murder mystery titled "Deep Space Exploration." However, due to the high hurdles of creating physical components for that project, yoshi shifted focus to "The Tale of Mina and Kotodama" to build a completely digital title.

Regarding technical implementation, speech recognition is processed entirely locally without requiring cloud communication, allowing the game to run on standard notebook microphones and headsets. The developer aims to complete the game within one year and eventually share the custom voice recognition engine with others.
