Key information
At the OSAKA INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026 held at Congress Square Grand Front Osaka, developer Cas showcased the 2D exploration action game Joy of the Shinobi, which is planned for release on PC in 2027.
Players control the ninja apprentice Jin to rescue the kidnapped Princess Sakura across the yokai-infested Mizutani country. The character's kunai can be used to defeat enemies, stick into walls as footholds, and extend further by stabbing another kunai into the first, offering a fresh way to reach high areas according to the reporter.
The reporter noted that acquiring the time-stopping ability called Everlasting Crossing adds puzzle-like depth by letting players create footholds in midair. The author also highlighted rewarding feedback elements such as confetti upon solving gimmicks, while developer Cas stated that assistance features like coyote time and buffer inputs improve controls, and time stopping also aids players who struggle with action mechanics.
Developer Cas mentioned that development is at about the remaining work stage of boss creation and overall polish, with an upcoming playable appearance scheduled at the Osaka Game Dungeon in December.
