Key information
Vanillaware’s acclaimed 2D action title, Muramasa, returns as Muramasa Rebirth: Strange Tales on February 4. This remaster, published by Marvelous, marks the series' first PC release and includes official Chinese localization, alongside all original paid DLC content.
The core combat remains familiar, retaining the fluid side-scrolling mechanics, three-blade equipment system, and spirit-consuming special moves. However, the remaster introduces a significant "Custom Special Move" system.
Players can now detach special moves from specific blades and assign them to a custom loadout, allowing for more complex aerial combos and greater tactical freedom. Reviewers noted that while the fundamental gameplay is largely unchanged, the new upgrade mechanics allow players to improve individual blades and moves, ensuring early-game favorites remain viable throughout the adventure.
The Chinese translation was praised for capturing the distinct character personalities and traditional Japanese atmosphere. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC. While some secondary systems like cooking and shops remain similar to the original, the overall package offers a refined experience with updated high-resolution visuals.
