Key information
Japanese developer Taskib has officially unveiled its upcoming puzzle-action title, Escape Game Engine, with a new Steam page. The game distinguishes itself by allowing players to manipulate the game engine itself to navigate through various levels.
The gameplay centers on a dual-perspective system involving the characters Haruka and Kaito. Players switch between the Execution View, which functions like a standard action game, and the Edit View, where they can directly adjust core mechanics such as gravity and collision detection.
A core design philosophy is the absence of a single correct solution. Players are encouraged to experiment with game mechanics, including intentional anomalies that mimic bugs, to discover unique ways to clear stages. This process mirrors the trial-and-error nature of actual game development.
Following its exhibition at Tokyo Game Show 2026, the title received positive feedback from attendees who enjoyed the novelty of interacting with the engine's backend systems to solve puzzles.
