Ubisoft has initiated a restructuring plan that includes the proposed closure of RedLynx, the Finland-based developer behind the Trials series. The company cites the lack of an active project at the studio as the primary economic justification for the potential shutdown, which would affect 52 employees.
RedLynx, founded in 2000 and acquired by Ubisoft in 2011, gained prominence with the success of Trials HD. The studio is recognized for its 2.5D motorcycle platformers that challenge players to navigate complex obstacle courses. Following the 2019 release of Trials Rising, the team shifted focus toward mobile development and support roles for other Ubisoft titles.
The closure process remains in a proposal stage due to Finnish legal requirements mandating consultations with staff. This follows a previous restructuring wave last year that resulted in the loss of 60 positions at the studio. RedLynx has recently contributed to projects including The Division 2 and Star Wars Outlaws.
Simultaneously, Ubisoft Singapore faces significant downsizing, with projections indicating a 20% reduction in its workforce. This studio, which served as the lead developer for Skull and Bones, is cutting 72 roles to align with future production requirements. These measures reflect broader organizational changes currently impacting multiple Ubisoft development teams.
