Rockstar Games leadership expects the lengthy eight-year gap between Red Dead Redemption II and Grand Theft Auto VI to remain an isolated incident. The studio is confident that future production timelines will be significantly shorter.
According to reporting by Jason Schreier for Bloomberg, the development of GTA 6 established new technological foundations. Phil Hooker, a development director, stated that the engine, tools, and team structures created for this project will allow for faster progress moving forward.
Aaron Garbut noted that the studio overhauled many internal systems for this project, which are now finalized and will not need to be rebuilt. This approach mirrors historical practices, such as the release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City just one year after Grand Theft Auto III.
The studio's workforce has also expanded significantly to support these ambitions. Rockstar now employs 4,711 staff members, effectively doubling its headcount from the 2,441 employees reported during the 2018 launch of Red Dead Redemption II.
