Krafton has cancelled the development of the PUBG extraction shooter spin-off Black Budget, arriving nine months after the title held its closed alpha test on Steam. The project was built around a time loop where whole teams aimed to survive and escape, differing from traditional battle royale games.

In a post on Steam, Krafton stated that after reviewing the project's direction and development status, they concluded it would not deliver a long-term enjoyable experience for players. PUBG Studios plans to apply lessons learned from Black Budget and its testing phases toward future projects.

This cancellation follows the shutdown of another free-to-play spin-off, Blindspot, which ended in March after two months in Early Access. Both games were originally intended to test the expansion of the PUBG intellectual property into new genres.

Despite these two project terminations, PUBG revealed a new multiplayer shooter spin-off named PUBG: Ded.Net featuring roguelike progression during Gamescom in August. Meanwhile, Krafton reported record Q2 performance with revenue growing 94.9% to ₩1.29 trillion ($889.1 million), supported by franchise expansion and Unknown Worlds' Subnautica 2.
