Sucker Punch's 2025 title Ghost of Yotei has achieved a functional state beyond its initial menus on the experimental PlayStation 5 emulator SharpEmu. Developer Foued showcased footage on X demonstrating the game's 3D environment loading and the character Atsu moving within the software.
The current emulation experience remains highly unstable. Foued noted that the shared video was accelerated, as the actual performance typically fluctuates between 1 and 2 frames per second. Furthermore, users are encountering significant texture and geometry errors during these early sessions.
Testing on high-end hardware, specifically a GeForce RTX 4090 and Ryzen 7 7800X3D, yielded 10.9 frames per second during the boss encounter with The Snake, though visual effects remain incorrectly rendered. An alternative approach using AnyPS5, which relinks executables rather than performing full emulation, currently struggles to load the game world at a rate of approximately 3.4 frames per minute.
Development interest in these emulators has intensified following reports that Sony canceled plans for an official PC port of Ghost of Yotei. While a fully playable experience remains distant, the rapid progress seen with other titles like Marvel's Wolverine suggests potential for future optimization.
