Estimates from Alinea Analytics suggest Gears of War: E-Day has generated over $37 million in revenue since its early access launch at the start of October. While pure sales reached approximately 230,000 copies, the title saw 1.7 million players access the game via Xbox Game Pass.
The game's revenue model relied heavily on the $30 Premium Edition upgrade, which over 722,000 Game Pass subscribers purchased to gain early access starting October 1st. A full release for standard subscribers and retail buyers followed on October 6th.
Eurogamer's review described the title as a game of contrasts, praising its technical proficiency and graphics while noting its conservative, 20-year-old design sensibilities. The publication characterized the experience as a competent, nostalgic take on the series' established formula.
Looking forward, studio head Mike Crump stated the game serves as a foundation for future sequels, aiming to reduce development time between entries. However, internal concerns regarding potential post-launch layoffs persist at The Coalition, and analysts speculate that Xbox may eventually move away from day-one Game Pass releases for major blockbusters.
