The psychological survival horror game Michi to Jukai, developed by Endflame, recently earned the Best Horror Award at the SAGA Barcelona Game Fest 2026. Published by tinyBuild, this first-person title features full Japanese language support and explores themes rooted in Japanese urban legends.
Players assume the role of a night-shift taxi driver in a Japanese town near a dense forest. The game consists of six non-linear chapters where the protagonist transports unsettling passengers. According to Laura Ripoll Galan, these interactions reveal local tragedies and mysteries through strange requests and eerie occurrences observed in the rearview mirror.
The gameplay alternates between driving and exploration. The taxi acts as a confined space that creates psychological pressure, while on-foot segments require players to investigate dark environments using a flashlight. Galan notes that the game's setting, Okunoyu, draws inspiration from the architecture and atmosphere of Kinosaki Onsen in Hyogo Prefecture.
Endflame, known for their 2022 debut Ikai, aims to evoke J-horror style tension through silence and subtle environmental anomalies. While the first chapter is currently available as a public demo, the studio plans to release a second chapter demo in early 2027.
