Yuji Horii, the creator of the Dragon Quest series, recently showcased a new adventure game titled The Pawn Shop Safe Theft Incident. He developed this project using the AI language model Claude, sharing the results on X on the 11th.

The game draws inspiration from Horii's earlier work, The Portopia Serial Murder Case. Players take on the role of an investigator tasked with extracting a confession from a 72-year-old retired locksmith named Komiya, who is suspected of stealing a scroll from the Sanshodo pawn shop. The investigation must be completed within a two-hour window before the suspect's lawyer arrives.

Gameplay involves interrogating the suspect and cross-referencing evidence with contradictory statements to expose lies. Players must successfully debunk four lies to reach a final decisive question. However, if the suspect's resistance level hits 100, they will remain silent, making it impossible to proceed.

Horii noted that he created this game in approximately 30 minutes. He reflected on how technology has evolved since he developed The Portopia Serial Murder Case in 1983, when he handled all story, graphics, and programming himself. He expressed amazement that AI now allows individuals to create quality games without needing traditional programming or artistic skills.
