Developer Jin Hwi-eus released the life simulation game 80 Billion to 1 on October 5. The title, which gained significant attention on social media, uses statistical data to randomly determine a player's birthplace, family background, and life events. Players navigate various milestones, including career choices and personal tragedies, while observing their character's life unfold.
While the game features various life events, the developer initially excluded suicide from the simulation. However, an update on October 11, version v0.6.36 beta, introduced suicide as a potential outcome based on real-world statistical data for specific ages, countries, and genders.
Jin Hwi-eus previously expressed hesitation, citing concerns that including suicide might make it appear as an unavoidable fate or negatively impact vulnerable users. He later reversed this decision, stating that intentionally omitting these experiences effectively excluded them from the game's goal of representing all human life experiences. The developer now aims to include as many life experiences as possible using statistical data.
Suicide does not appear as a player-selected option but occurs based on statistical probabilities influenced by factors like unemployment, debt, or loss. When this outcome occurs, the game displays resources such as the 24-hour Child SOS Dial. The title remains available to play for free via a web browser.
