Ludeon Studios announced update 1.7 for the survival simulation game RimWorld, marking a significant shift from the Unity engine to their proprietary Waylith Engine. This transition aims to modernize the game's technical foundation.

The new engine delivers substantial performance gains, with developers reporting improvements between 2 and 4 times over the previous version. Stress tests conducted on late-game scenarios showed a 2.2-fold performance increase compared to version 1.6.

The update specifically addresses stability issues caused by heavy mod usage. Loading times for complex modpacks containing over 1,500 mods have been reduced from 14 minutes to 6 minutes, significantly improving map and world generation speeds.

Version 1.7 is currently available via the beta tab. While most save files and mods remain compatible, developers caution that the new engine may not support older PC hardware. The Waylith Engine is also intended for use in the studio's future projects.
