Cloud Imperium Games has officially launched a Steam page for Squadron 42, the long-anticipated singleplayer spinoff of Star Citizen. The developer currently targets a release window in the second quarter of 2027, spanning from April to June.
The game is described as a cinematic space adventure where players enlist in the UEE Navy. Gameplay involves navigating a galactic war across various settings, including fighter cockpits, capital ships, and frontier outposts. Players engage in dogfights, interact with superiors, and experience life aboard vessels like the UEES Stanton.
A new trailer highlights the game's aesthetic, which draws comparisons to Mass Effect and Star Trek. The footage emphasizes themes of honor, sacrifice, and military service, while showcasing the player's role in an interstellar army.
Squadron 42 features an extensive cast of famous actors, including Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Andy Serkis, Henry Cavill, Mark Strong, and John Rhys-Davies. Players can choose between male or female protagonists, with voice acting provided by notable performers.
Interested players can now add the title to their Steam wishlists as the studio works toward the 2027 launch date.
