Cloud Imperium Games has officially announced that Squadron 42, a single-player adventure set within the Star Citizen universe, is slated for a Q2 2027 release. Following a successful demonstration at the developer's Manchester, UK office, the studio confirmed that the title will be available on Steam, where it is currently available to wishlist.

The game features a star-studded cast including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, and Andy Serkis. These actors provide full performance capture, with their portrayals integrated directly into gameplay rather than being limited to cinematics. Players assume the role of a rookie gunner in the United Empire of Earth Navy, navigating a narrative set in 2945 that focuses on humanity's survival against alien threats.

Built on the proprietary StarEngine technology, the game offers a blend of space dogfights, ground-based combat, and interactive cinematic sequences. The experience is designed to transition seamlessly between these gameplay styles and narrative moments, allowing players to engage in exploration and critical decision-making alongside a dynamic crew aboard a capital ship.

While the developer has confirmed the release window and platform, several logistical details remain unaddressed. According to GamingTrend, questions regarding how original backers will access the game, whether they will receive Steam keys, and the final system requirements have yet to be clarified by Cloud Imperium Games.
