SILENT HILL: Townfall introduces a first-person perspective for the entire game, moving away from the traditional third-person view. While past titles like SILENT HILL 4 THE ROOM in 2004 and SILENT HILL: The Short Message in 2024 featured first-person segments, this is the first full game in the series to use the protagonist's viewpoint throughout.
Players step into the shoes of protagonist Simon O'Dell, experiencing a restricted field of view heightened by a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Instead of a traditional radio, the portable CRTV device lets players switch frequencies to locate nearby enemies while holding it up with the L1 button, complemented by DualSense haptic feedback.
Combat requires quick reactions to parry enemy attacks with frail equipment, but fighting is not the only option. Players can crouch with the circle button to hide behind obstacles, peek around corners using the right stick while holding R1, or hide inside cabinets and lockers, though entering a hiding spot while seen results in being dragged out.
Motion controls can be enabled in the settings to aim firearms and throw items by tilting the DualSense controller. Published by KONAMI as a psychological horror game for PlayStation 5, SILENT HILL: Townfall is available now, priced at 7,480 yen for the Standard Edition and 8,580 yen for the Deluxe Edition.
