Former Nintendo of America public relations representatives Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang recently discussed the company's strategy regarding remakes. They suggest that Nintendo should leverage its extensive back catalog to release more classic titles, noting that there is significant consumer interest in these projects.
Ellis highlighted that Nintendo possesses an exceptionally deep library of games. He argued that remakes serve as an effective way to fill gaps in the release schedule without requiring the development of new titles from scratch, though he cautioned against over-reliance on past content.
Yang supported this perspective, noting that remakes are more cost-effective and help maintain a steady release cadence. She contrasted this with Sony, suggesting that relying solely on major AAA titles can lead to scheduling problems, although she warned that Nintendo must avoid becoming overly dependent on the financial success of remakes at the expense of creative risk.
Current plans include a modern reinterpretation of Star Fox and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, both expected in 2026. These titles aim to introduce accessibility and control improvements while remaining faithful to their original versions.
