Send in the Clown is a comedic turn-based RPG where players control a clown named Pockets. The primary objective is to save a 12-year-old's birthday party by defeating an annoying child named Tad. Notably, the entire game centers around a single battle, with the majority of the experience focused on preparation.
To overcome Tad, players must befriend various party guests through diverse minigames. These include a rhythm game to assist a father with his dance moves, Uncharted-style quick time events to help an exhausted mother, and activities to encourage a shy child. These characters then join the player's party, offering unique abilities like the mother's powerful baby-throwing attack.
The developer created a full battle system specifically for this singular encounter. Players can also uncover various secrets to aid in the fight. The game is designed to be short, lasting approximately one hour, which avoids the need for grinding. Additionally, the developers explicitly stated that no artificial intelligence was utilized during the game's creation.
