Retail prices for Nvidia RTX 50-series graphics cards in Japan have risen significantly, with some models costing between 5.66% and 41.1% more than current listings on Amazon U.S. A recent report highlighted that the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB experienced the most substantial price hike at 41.10%, while the RTX 5080 saw an average increase of 12.71%.

These price adjustments are attributed to ongoing memory chip shortages and intense demand for AI compute resources. Reports indicate that Nvidia may be prioritizing production of professional and data center GPUs over the RTX 5090, which has led to supply constraints for high-end gaming cards and subsequent pressure on lower-tier models.

While the Japanese market is historically more expensive for hardware, these trends have raised concerns about potential global impacts. Similar supply issues previously led to purchase limits on storage components and high-end GPUs in Japan. Analysts suggest that these regional pricing shifts could serve as a precursor to similar trends in the United States.

The current price comparisons are based on an exchange rate of 153.38 JPY to 1 USD. Because these figures represent pre-tax costs, the actual price disparity for consumers may fluctuate based on local sales tax rates. Similar price increases have also been observed in South Korea and China, where some retailers have raised prices by up to 59%.
