Norwegian developer Funcom has initiated a restructuring process, resulting in an undisclosed number of staff layoffs. The company is shifting its strategic focus exclusively toward the long-term live operations and expansion of Conan Exiles and Dune: Awakening.

CEO Rui Casais, who has led the studio for 11 years, will depart at the end of the year. He will be succeeded by current Chief Product Officer Scott Junior, who previously served as Executive Producer on Dune: Awakening.

Casais stated that the transition from full production to post-launch operations necessitates a different organizational structure. He noted that the company cannot maintain the workforce size required during the peak development phase of Dune: Awakening, which he described as the firm's largest project to date.

Funcom remains committed to supporting its core titles, including the recently released Enhanced edition of Conan Exiles. The restructuring follows previous staff reductions in October 2025, which included the closure of the subsidiary The Outsiders.
