Kotaro Uchikoshi, the writer known for titles such as Ever17, the Zero Escape series, and AI: The Somnium Files, has officially announced the establishment of a new studio named CRASH KEYS. This announcement comes after the creator revealed that a project he had been developing for one and a half years was recently cancelled.
The studio launch was originally planned for 2027 alongside the now-cancelled title. Uchikoshi decided to move the announcement forward because his company was at risk of a literal crash. Consequently, he is currently seeking new work opportunities and financial investment to support the studio's future operations.
The studio's branding contains several references to Uchikoshi's previous work, including nods to Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue's Last Reward. The official website features cryptic elements, such as the phrase MEMENTO MORI, IF THE NIN"e"TH LION ATE THE SUN and hidden ciphers within the English member section, which have sparked speculation among fans regarding potential future projects.
While the website includes these thematic elements, it remains unclear if they are merely playful tributes or indicators of future creative directions. The studio is now actively soliciting professional inquiries as it moves forward following the unexpected cancellation of its initial project.
