The modding community continues to challenge Bethesda's design choices in Starfield. Developer Frederik Wessberg recently unveiled a project titled Seamless Landings, which aims to eliminate loading screens when traveling from orbit to a planet's surface. This development follows previous community efforts like Fallout: London, which highlighted fan desires for expanded game experiences.

Seamless Landings allows players to choose between manual flight or autopilot, similar to mechanics found in No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, or Star Wars Outlaws. During the descent, players can move freely within their ship or observe the process in first or third person. The mod incorporates complex atmospheric effects, including volumetric clouds, weather systems, and physically based lighting, by utilizing the game's existing surface data.

To achieve this, Wessberg had to reimplement the game's 3D planet rendering, as the base version of Starfield relies on limited textures when viewed from space. The project is currently in development, is exclusive to PC, and requires the Starfield Script Extender (SFSE). Wessberg noted that the mod is intended to be 100% free.

Commentary suggests that Bethesda should consider collaborating with Wessberg to integrate these mechanics into the official game. While the project remains in development and faces technical challenges, observers argue that such an update could significantly evolve the player experience, similar to major updates seen in other titles like No Man's Sky.
