Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii recently showcased a new game prototype developed entirely through AI prompting. The project, which Horii claims took less than 30 minutes to create, is currently available to play online for free.
The title functions as a text-based interrogation game. Horii contrasted this modern workflow with his experience developing The Portopia Serial Murder Case, where he personally handled all storytelling, illustration, and programming tasks.
Horii, who is 72 and co-owns the Dragon Quest franchise via Armor Project, has expressed long-standing support for AI integration. He previously stated an intention to incorporate generative AI into future projects to accelerate development.
Separately, Square Enix has integrated AI into the Japanese-only MMO Dragon Quest X. This initiative features an AI-powered partner called Chatty Slimely, developed in collaboration with Google to assist players via voice and text.
