Dragon Quest co-creator Yuji Horii recently unveiled a new text-based interrogation game developed using generative AI. Horii stated that the entire production process for this project was completed in approximately 30 minutes.
Reflecting on his career, Horii contrasted this modern experience with his work on the 1983 title The Portopia Serial Murder Case. He noted that he previously handled all aspects of development, including storytelling, art, and programming, entirely by himself.
Horii expressed astonishment at how AI tools now allow individuals to create functional games without needing traditional programming or artistic skills. He cautioned users of his new project specifically to avoid pressing the boost button.
This release follows Horii's previous integration of Google's Gemini AI into Dragon Quest 10 to power an NPC chatbot. While generative AI remains a controversial topic regarding industry job security, Horii continues exploring the technology for future projects, including Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams.
